Yes definitely. We cover both Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator in this course. More specifically, how to create patterns. If you have never used Adobe before, then I recommend you take my Beginner Adobe PS & AI course first. You will need to be subscribed to the Creative Cloud to use the Adobe Programs.
All the modules within the course are pre-recorded, which means you can watch the lessons at your own pace. Once you are enrolled, you will have access to the entire course.

It’s like you feel like you have to break into something. Like it’s this exclusive club, ‘how do I get into it?’ That's how people perceive it. It's this exclusive thing where you tell yourself I just need one client and then I’ll be in. It’s not something you need to do. It's an evolution of your work. You need to share what you do and the services you offer so that your clients can see that it’s something you do. If you don’t show that or put it out there and remind them, how are they going to know?
There is one avenue of surface pattern design that can act like a form of passive income. I don't want to be misleading and tell people that it’s a complete passive revenue. You still have to look after the licensing, your pattern library, create designs and work with the clients. You’re still running a business here.
Firstly, give yourself at least 2-3 years of sharing your work to start booking regular clients. This isn't a short term thing - it’s a long game. We’re setting you with the mindset and the tools for a full time stable income and building beautiful relationships along the way. Having said that, don’t be so hard on yourself. Enjoy it!! You’ve got this!
Yes of course! We cover everrrryything. To give you an example, swimwear brands don’t often do royalties because they prefer to buy designs as a one off purchase, whereas my other clients such as ‘The Dairy’ which uses my designs on their phone cases are set up to do royalties, so you supply the design and receive the money each time they sell your product. Don’t worry, we cover all this and so much more in the course, which you can refer back to anytime!

It all comes back to self belief. I get it, I’ve been there. Right now, you don’t trust yourself to do something different than what you’ve already seen. You see other people and go, ‘Oh someone’s made money off their print, someone’s made money off their art’. You see that, but you don’t trust yourself to do it in a different way that suits your own brand and style. You don’t believe in yourself. You didn’t know that there are (and always have been) other ways to do it. And that’s okay. I’m here to help you.

There are many Surface Designers making a very impressive income from Surface Design, YES. I can tell you that they did it by sharing their work and learning the techniques. You gotta do it all. You've gotta apply the knowledge, you’ve gotta back yourself, you have to commit to this career and you have to understand that it’s a long term career.
For me, I offered Surface Design as just one of my services amongst other design offers. I did this until I could simply offer Surface Design Full Time. It’s a slow process, and it looks different for every individual.
In order to run a successful business, it’s also about business skills, money management and so many other factors, you really do have to look at it holistically and be willing to put in the time to learn and grow towards your vision.
Like anything, a creative career is a journey and we all start at the bottom and work our way up. You need to commit to your craft and carve out alot of time to create to ensure you are growing and improving. This isn’t going to happen overnight.
In this course I teach you the design principles you need to create beautiful designs, however it takes practice and industry experience in order to continually improve. Remember - it’s about enjoying the process and the journey.
We go through all the marketing and magnetising strategies to pull clients in, not for you to rummage or lower your prices just to get a less-than ideal client. I cover this in my course guarantee; you will attract better quality clients that are the right fit for you if you share more of the work you love. It’s something I’m passionate about. Trust in the process, share one print at a time, and attract brands like I did.
Umm No. The legalities of licensing your artwork differ from country to country. In this course we talk about how Licensing works in Australia only.
OFCOURSE! This course isn’t just for artists, it’s for ALL creatives! In this Surface Pattern Design course I cover both pixel-based artwork (watercolour, acrylic, etc) AND vector-based artwork (solid lines, shapes, etc). If you can draw a line, then you can make a pattern :)
So Textile Design is more focused on fabric, and Surface Design is a broader term, covering all surfaces. We touch on different printing techniques, however we do not discuss different fabrics and the specifics of textile design.

This course will not “FIX” all your creative business problems, but it will help you master your mindset and give you skills in Surface Design to assist you in offering this as a service in your design business.
